A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY COMMISSIONER CONCERNING FALL SOFTBALL
Congratulations to each of the 2023 Division’s Tournament Champion teams.
For those Wilmington Senior Softball players who wish to continue playing for several more weeks, please read below and kindly be guided accordingly.
FALL BALL
** Ogden Park Ball Fields BLUE, RED, YELLOW, GREEN will be available for use on Tuesday & Thursday.
** Field access time is 9:00am or any time thereafter, until 2:00pm. As has been all season, NO players shall access the fields while they are being worked on (dragged, grass being mowed, etc.). If the outfield grass is being cut, NO infield use! Infield being dragged, NO outfield use! Once the Parks workers have cleared the field, then access can be gained from 9:00am or later.
** Fields may be dragged, however, this will be done but ONCE per week. I have requested that if possible to have the fields dragged on Tuesday mornings. Parks Dept. crews agreed, but this will only be done if they have not been reassigned to work at another field or to a different work assignment or project.
** No fields will be lined. Any lines present on any fields are not applied by New Hanover County Department of Parks & Gardens.
** Bases (permanent) SHALL NOT be moved from the current positions to adjust for distance or even off the fields.
** Pitcher’s screens can be used, but should be removed from the field of play once their use is finished. They can be left along the fence line on either the 1st base or 3rd base line on the field it was used. They do not have to be moved outside of the fence lines.
** Pitcher’s mounds SHALL NOT BE MOVED.
** Fields used should be raked after play is completed. Areas immediately around home plate, batter’s boxes and pitcher’s rubber/mound are the only areas needing to be raked. Infield areas and areas surrounding the bases DO NOT need to be raked.
*** PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
>Much of the equipment on the fields belongs to a private organization. Their season closes on or about Nov. 6th. It’s anticipated that their equipment will be removed from the fields, including but not limited to; Bases (permanent), pitching screens, etc. It’s highly recommended that anyone planning to play Fall Ball should coordinate and have available to them some type of throw down bases for their use (to replace the permanent ones once they’re removed) and pitcher’s screens. Temporary bases can be positioned wherever decided by players.
>Scoreboards and concessions stand will NOT be used.
>Bathrooms will be open and available for use.
>For EMERGENCY use there is an A.E.D. located, installed & identified by signage inside a doorway facing the backstop of the BLUE field, from the press box/concessions stand. The security box entry code is 9111* to gain access to the doorway for the A.E.D. machine.
Please be aware that this keypad is electronically monitored and there has recently been cameras installed to monitor, live stream and store video activity at this point of entry. This was done in an attempt to better secure the equipment from vandalism, theft, etc.
>The New Hanover County Department of Parks & Gardens will CLOSE the ball fields on November 30 until the spring, unless otherwise posted sooner (field entry gates locked, signs posted, etc).
>WET FIELDS SHOULD NOT BE USED. Wet fields would be any field with standing water. Raking or attempting to move the infield dirt/water to help dry any wet infield should NOT be done by anyone other than the Parks Department. If the fields are wet, don’t use them.
>Please remove any and all equipment and garbage before leaving the fields. If you brought it in with you, Don’t leave it behind.
Congratulations to each of the 2023 Division’s Tournament Champion teams.
