A Brief History on the Formation of the WSSA

This year, the Wilmington Senior Softball Association (WSSA) will be celebrating its 25th year in our area providing slow pitch, recreational softball for those who are 55 years and older. From a few players looking for pickup games in 1995 to a robust association now numbering more than 180 players, the WSSA has been a community resource providing this unique opportunity.
Every year from mid-April to deep into October, 12 teams meet twice a week to compete in our 60-game season - playing all games in Wilmington either at Olsen Park or Ogden Park.  While our players pay an annual membership fee to help offset field rental, umpire fees, insurance, and other administrative costs, we are reliant on our generous sponsors who provide team uniforms, team gear, and safety equipment. ​

What Events Are Being Planned for The 25th Anniversary

The first is our ceremonial Opening Day, scheduled for April 14th.  Plans are underway to include our former players and WSSA Hall of Fame stars, local government and park representatives, our sponsors, and special dignitaries.  Also in April, we are planning a quarter century banquet for our current and former players which will feature a program of stories, achievements, presentations, and a few surprise guests.

We also want to acknowledge our 25-year anniversary by purchasing for all 180+ players, 25th anniversary commemorative WSSA softball caps.  During the 2020 season, each team will wear their sponsor jerseys, but we will all wear these silver anniversary hats.

25th Anniversary Fund Raising Efforts

We are reaching out to local businesses asking for financial support for our association (WSSA is a 501(c)(7) non-profit organization) to help fund our 2 events and the purchase of our 25-year anniversary hats.  We will acknowledge your financial support in the program being prepared for our banquet along with your logo, website information, etc.
