State Games Teams Now Being Formed
The North Carolina State Senior Games will be in Cary this year from Oct. 22nd to the 25th. We are inviting WSSA and other interested softball players to join a team. We have enough talent and interest to field at least 2--maybe 3-- teams. Any players interested in an 80+ team please contact John Bonner. Those interested in a 70+ team can contact Mike Master. If you are interested in 75+, 65+ and 60+ teams please take the lead in organizing a team.
To participant you must be registered for a local county games. It does not have to be the county in which you live (New Hanover County does not have local games). Brunswick and Onslow Counties are popular with our players, but registration in any local games will make you eligible.

Ogden Field Usage Rules Updated 3/23/23
Effective Thursday, March 23rd, the following rules have been agreed upon between the New Hanover County Parks and Gardens Dept. (NHCPG) and the WSSA for all Coastal & Legacy Division teams:
Ogden Fields (Red / Blue / Green / Yellow) can be accessed starting at 8:45 but NOT PRIOR. This is provided there are no NHCPG employees working ANYWHERE on the field. If there is a NHCPG employee cutting the grass of a field you are not playing on, you can access your field. However, if there is an employee cutting (working) the outfield grass and 8:45 rolls around, please STAY OFF THE FIELD until they are done.
Warmups can be done outside/off the field until they are done working and have left the field. Just because they are cutting the outfield grass DOES NOT allow us access to use the foul line area or infield to warm up. It is also important to not go on the fields if they are wet.
Update on field conditions:
RED FIELD: The outfield more towards the right side has a smaller size hole in the outfield. NHCPG has been informed and are working to fill in the hole. It is not a sprinkler head nor a rodent home or tunnel. Just a hole that needs to be filled in.
YELLOW FIELD: NHCPG has been made aware that the area in front of the pitcher’s mound needs to be filled in and leveled off to bring the field level back up to the height of the mound. Apparently the younger pitchers use the front of the mound to push off of and have completely excavated the front of the mound and the area immediately in front of it. NHCPG has said they will take care of it.
ALL FOUR FIELDS:
Team managers, please ensure that the fields are raked before leaving the fields. The only places that need to be raked are immediately around home plate and the batter's boxes and the immediate area around the pitcher's mound. Rakes have been left at each field and should be returned to the roof of the home team dugout after use. Once the official games start, the HOME TEAM manager is responsible for ensuring the field is raked at the end of games. Until we start our season, for team practices, the manager of the last team to use the field is responsible for ensuring the field is raked.
Pitching screens/nets (if they are not property of WSSA) should be moved off the fields after practice or games and placed alongside the fence on either the first or third base side of the field it was used on, whichever side is easier to move it to. Please move screens off the fields even if they were there when you arrived at the field. You do not have to concern yourself with fields you did not use.
Please encourage ALL the players on your teams to check the dugouts, bleachers area and surrounding area immediate to the field you are using to ensure there is no equipment or trash left behind by our players. (Coolers, water bottles, wrappers, coffee cups, etc).
We are aware that there is often trash and/or debris left behind by teams using the fields at night. NHCPG is also aware of this. In the event you arrive at a field to play and notice garbage, trash, debris, etc. left behind (that your team did not create) please be sure to bring it to the attention of WSSA Deputy Commissioner Brian McCarthy, so he can advise the NHCPG and we are not held responsible for it. Any questions regarding the field conditions may be addressed to Brian, (203) 395-8405.
Do not call the field supervisor to ask him about field conditions. For field closures due to weather before the regular season games start, the Deputy Commissioner will send a text to everyone on the Board as soon as he is aware of it and notice will be posted to the web site as soon as possible thereafter. After receiving notice of field closings, the President of each Division will contact their team Managers as soon as feasible to allow the team Managers to notify as many players as they may be able to, especially those driving a longer distance. Those players not yet with a team will have to rely on the web site. Brian McCarthy, Deputy Commissioner, is our liaison with the field maintenance crew. Only he should call them. If you have questions about field conditions, first check your text messages and the WSSA website, then if necessary call Brian, (203) 395-8405.
